The Grammarly Free Trial
Having just reviewed a few of my older articles and found copious mistakes using my Grammarly free trial, I thought it prudent to mention this program for students and avid writers.
How Often Do You Write?
I mean, my grandfather wrote six published novels, countless short stories, was a journalist and became the editor for several high profile magazines and newspapers.
So, he was a professional writer.
I started writing about two years ago and have written, on average one article a day and published these on my websites, networking sites, social sites, industry websites, etc.
Do I qualify yet? I still don’t feel like a writer. Maybe I am an online marketing professional who writes a lot!
Anyway, to the point (I must be a writer, I’m waffling!). I have always had problems with spelling. I am not sure if I am a bit dyslexic or not because I do get letters around the wrong way quite often .. like jsut (just) – that’s my worst one.
And punctuation is pretty poor too. Apparently, I forget my apostrophes often when I write dont and cant and Im.
It can be quite embarrassing when people point out the errors to me. After all, I’m a writer! Right? And especially when my wife, who is an adult educator and language perfectionist, picks up the errors after I have proofread and published my articles.
So, I was reading some posts on a networking site that I use to promote my online businesses – IBOToolbox. I clicked on an advert for Grammarly. I had heard about it before but had not looked at it.
What is Grammarly Software ?
Grammarly is a program you can download and reside on your computer and use on your writing tools (Word, Notes, email, etc.).
It is used predominantly for picking up spelling mistakes and punctuation errors. That is the basic version – the free version. There is also a premium version that will check heaps more grammatical errors and detect plagiarism issues.
I have found that with the addition of the Grammarly free trial version I can pick up a lot more problems that I could just the MSWord’s spell check.
From Grammarly Free Trial To The Premium Version
Recently, I upgraded to the premium version to help me capture some of my additional grammatical mistakes and also to ensure that I had no problems with any perceived plagiarised work.
It is not to say that you are cheating or copying anything. But the issue is that there is a LOT of content floating around on the internet these days.
It is not uncommon for people to unintentionally state the same phrases or write something that sounds and reads the same as something else.
There is nothing worse than the thought of being taken to task over potential plagiarism issues. It is covered on the first day of the first semester of every College or University program for a reason.
So How Do You Deal With It?
That is where Grammarly steps in.
For example, the paragraph below was copied from a site on the internet. Grammarly has picked this up correctly and even indicated exactly from where it came.
Computer science is the scientific and practical approach to computation and its applications. It is the systematic study of the feasibility, structure, expression, and mechanization of the methodical procedures (or algorithms) that underlie the acquisition, representation, processing, storage, communication of, and access to information.
Additionally, some of the other sentences that I have written above appear similar to others detected on the internet.
While I am not going to bother changing them, because this will be going overboard in this context, it can be useful for students if you are keen to ensure your document is squeaky clean.
I Try Not To Get Too Precious About My Mistakes
You can use the Grammarly free trial as it is forever and a day if you like. You don’t have to pay anything for that privilege.
However, I am liking the premium version. It is helping me formulate my sentences better, and my spelling is improving.
(note, it doesn’t like the way I write. I like to write as I speak, and this does not resonate well with Grammarly’s formal requirements – bah humbug!)
The fact that my articles are focused mostly on online business development, there are ongoing issues with content, paragraphs, sentences, etc. appearing the same or similar to other’s work.
The Grammarly free trial does not include the plagiarism checked, so this has been a useful addition to my writing toolbox.
Upgrading To Premium Is Easy To Do.
You have the option of paying for a monthly upgrade (great if you just want to use it for critical writing assignments). Or you can take advantage of the discounted quarterly and annual subscriptions and benefit from the coverage longer.
I hope this has been of use to some of my readers. Please try the Grammarly free trial and see what you think. Drop your comments in the area below if you would like to contribute your experiences.
